Personal Protective Equipment at Emerald Facility Services

October 2016

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protects Emerald Facility Services employees against health or safety risks while at work. It can include items such as uniforms, safety helmets, gloves, eye protection, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear and safety harnesses.

Ensure to wear your uniform or personal protective equipment at all times when at work. It not only protects you but can also protects your family from bacteria and germs that you come into contact with when at work.

Look after your PPE properly by cleaning regularly and store correctly when not in use, e.g. in a dry, clean cupboard. If it is reusable it must be cleaned and kept in good condition.

Types of PPE and why we use them at Emerald facility Services:
Uniforms for cleaners – this allows clients know what company you work for. Also most importantly wearing your uniform in work protects you and your family by keeping dirt and germs on work clothing only.

Safety helmet– protecting your head and neck in case of falling or flying objects, risk of head bumping or chemical drips or splash. Ensure to replace head protection if it is damaged.

Ear Protection – Earplugs or earmuffs provide hearing protection. Ensure you fit them correctly.
Gloves protect your hand from any chemical cleaning agents you may be using. Wearing gloves for long periods can make the skin hot and sweaty, leading to skin problems. Using separate cotton inner gloves can help prevent this.

Safety boots or shoes with protective toecaps and penetration-resistant. Footwear can have a variety of sole patterns and materials to help prevent slips in different conditions, including oil- or chemical-resistant soles. Appropriate footwear should be selected for the risks identified at your area of work.

Goggles are used to protect the eyes from debris and are required when working in enclosed spaces or working on building sites.

Finally it’s important to remember that when we have personal protective equipment requirements, it means there is a hazard that may cause you injury and failing to use the prescribed equipment puts you in potential danger. So please make sure to wear the correct PPE at all times to ensure you are safe at all times while working at Emerald Facility Services!
